Eugenia Elliott – vocalist and composer
An accomplished flute player, Eugenia Elliott has been singing all her life. Her heart lies in her love of singing. Since a move to Chicago in 1991 from the east coast, Eugenia has made her mark on the Chicago music scene in a wide variety of musical genres that include vocal jazz standards, bluegrass, old time country and popular contemporary music. Ms. Elliott has worked as a clinical social worker and massage therapist, noting that there is a symbiotic bond between the two professions and music in that all are dedicated to relationships, communication and healing.
"Where or When" (1999 Southport) is a soulful recording of songs from her Mother's era - Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, Jerome Kern, Hoagy Carmichael, George & Ira Gershwin - all sung with clarity of tone, tenderness and love.
The New Album: “4000 Weeks”
Eugenia’s steady development as a musician has led naturally to the world of songwriting. “Melodies have always lived in my head”, she says, “and have been waiting for an opportunity to be brought to life”. She admires the poetry of the great songwriters and also loves the sound of language. “4000 Weeks” has been nurtured into existence with the extensive talents of singer/songwriter Steve Dawson as producer, musician and engineer. This partnership has resulted in a lush and versatile sound that brings together much of Eugenia’s singing history into one album. "4000 Weeks" is the missing link between the torchy country songs of the 40s and 50s and the acoustic-based indie music of the present. The 13 tracks feel comfortably lived-in—like a group of recently re-discovered standards—featuring Elliott's rich, warm alto, uncomplicated arrangements and glowing harmonies.
