Jason Adasiewicz Sun Rooms Delmark Records
We’re very excited and proud to present the Delmark recording debut as a leader from the immensely talented Chicago vibraphonist, drummer, and composer Jason Adasiewicz, who has received multi-nominations for “Rising Star Vibes” in DownBeat’s Critics Awards, as well as the JJA’s “2010 Mallet Instrumentalist of the Year.”
This impressive Chicago jazz trio, which includes drummer, Pitchfork Fest and Emerging Improvisers Org. founder Mike Reed (w/ Peoples, Places & Things, Loose Assembly, ESO) and bassist Nate McBride (w/ Joe Morris, Ken Vandermark) are all leaders of the world renowned Chicago jazz and improvised music scene. They formed in 2008, first experimenting as a free improvising trio, and later focusing attention on arranging tunes that Adasiewicz wrote during his wife’s first pregnancy in the summer of 2009. A prolific and integral member of Chicago’s creative music scene, Jason Adasiewicz displays his aggressive yet lyrical style to over 20 working group, including his own quintet, Rolldown, and those led by Josh Berman (on Delmark’s Old Idea), Rob Mazurek’s Exploding Star Orchestra (he and Reed are also on the new Delmark CD/LP Stars Have Shapes), Nicole Mitchell, Ken Vandermark, Guillermo Gregorio, & Fred Lonberg-Holm. Sun Rooms features 5 of Jason’s original compositions, as well as the trio’s homages to Sun Ra, Duke Ellington, and Hasaan Ibn Ali – a pianist that was only documented once, a ‘64 record with Max Roach that is very influential to this brilliant new recording.
“Adasiewicz has a tone and sense of phrasing that is unlike anyone on the instrument currently active, his sense of melody wistful and attack pelting with equal parts Milt Jackson and Khan Jamal.” –The Austinist
“Adasiewicz’s oscillating spatially-attuned sustains turn up the tension without compromising the prevailing melody-minded mood.”-Bagatellen
