Orbert Davis is Founder and Artistic Director of the 60-piece jazz symphonic orchestra, Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. This performance marks a CJP celebration of its album release Sketches of Spain (Revisited), a reinterpretation of the 1960 Miles Davis / Gil Evans collaboration which was never performed live until Orbert Davis did so in 1995 as part of Bill Russo’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble. He has gone on to perform it over a dozen times since, which led to his desire to [Revisit] the piece and deliver his own arrangement and original composition, performed and recorded by the CJP Chamber Ensemble under his baton.
